Izzo to Bulls?

Reports are floating around today that the Bulls are interested in Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo. This would not be the first time he’s been mentioned for NBA gigs. Izzo has made it known throughout the league he would listen if called. If I’m a Bulls fan, I’d be thrilled. If I’m a MSU fan, I’m worried (which I am, class of ‘93). An intense perfectionist, Izzo would bring structure to a Bulls franchise desperately in need of it. I know he would enjoy the just-coaching nature of the NBA. Building a college program is never as enjoyable as sustaining it. The fact Izzo would take John Paxson’s call tells me he is feeling a bit burnt out from the meat grinder that is Division 1 college hoops. While I don’t think he’ll be offered the job, but if he is, he just might bolt for an NBA job that would provide financial security, if not job security.

Izzo’s a great college coach, but I can’t help thinking about Tim Floyd.

  2. Jon Kerr Says:

A slight difference. Izzo has actually won,and won big, at the college level. Floyd beat Texas Tech a few times.
